Me and two of my co-workers have decided to have a friendly fitness competition for the next 12 weeks.
In this competition we will be keeping track of 2 values: % Body Fat and Lean Body Mass (in lbs) by using a Tanita BC-1000 scale. No other official measurements will be allowed, although I will keep my own personal records during this event. At the end of the competition, a winner will be selected in each category as follows: The individual with the largest decrease in % Body Fat and the individual with the largest increase in Lean Body Mass. The participation dates are: Friday February 1st through Friday April 26th. We will weigh in once every 2 weeks to keep track of our results.
Our stats from Zac’s scale
1) Zac- 37 Years Old, 5'5', 183lbs, 28.1% BF, 125 LBM
2) Mike (Me)- 40 Years old, 6'2", 200lbs, 22% BF, 148.4 LBM
3) Dan-47 Years Old, 5'6", 201lbs, 34.8% BF, 125 LBM
Why are we doing this? It is a fun way to monitor the progress of our goals, it promotes a healthy competitive nature that pushes us towards reaching our personal best, it helps keep us motivated and most importantly, for bragging rights.
For me the most interesting part of this competition will be seeing not only the outcome of our hard work but also the journey we each took to reach our destination.
For example, Dan is a bodybuilder preparing for a competition this June. His diet and exercise routines are fairly different from Zac and I. Dan’s system is; high volume rep exercises, split body part routines and isolation muscle group exercises. Zac is focusing on a strict crossfit type routine with the Paleo diet. I am doing a combination of HIT/Crossfit with 5x5 Compound exercises while on the Paleo\Primal diet.
Who will win? I could say only time will tell but we all know that won’t be true. My money is on me of course! :)
