I find it a weird dichotomy of political correctness and freedom of speech. On one hand you aren't supposed to say words that could be interpreted as offensive or insensitive towards a particular group of people or individuals. On the other hand we as Americans have fought many wars, and sacrificed lives so that citizens have freedoms; such as freedom of speech. Somewhere along the road change occurred. It went from simply being respectful of others and embracing our uniqueness to topics of silence. No longer can we laugh out loud at the absurd narrow-mindedness and poke fun at ourselves. It seems the more we don't want to notice and we deny the outside social dynamics the greater disparity becomes. As with anything there is always a balance.
